There will be workshops on rural grocery stores, organic pest control, square foot gardening, CSA panel of experts, among other things. Ken will address the economics of local foods, and I will give an update on my program at the state.

I am really looking forward to this! I wish I could stay for the film on Saturday night, but I am not a big fan of driving @ night...

If we are to present at the Summit, we have a couple of options. We can talk about our greenhouse methods, which is always useful, and/or I could talk about research for the next book I'm working on.

It's called Building the Fifty Dollar Table. The book title comes from the proverb: If someone asks you to sit in on their poker game, but they have $5000 and you have $50, Don't Sit Down. Local Food advocates can't go head-to-head with ADM, Monsanto and the like, but must build something different. The book will be a sort of memoir/travelogue/manifesto of the culture I see emerging from the Local Foods Movement.

I'd also like to lead a group discussion of the ideas that are coming out of my research. I see a common culture arising from/with the Local Foods Movement. I'd like to get others' ideas about what they see happening. What sort of shared values and social traits commonly arise from vibrant Local Foods communities?

Do you have an agenda yet? Who is doing the planning? For the purposes of this Summit, how are you defining "local"? And I suppose I'd like to understand if this is a Summit about "local food" or "food in our locality".
